Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing

Maintaining our mental and emotional health is just as important as maintaining our physical health.

If we ignore of physical wellbeing our body lets us know. If we ignore our emotional and mental health our feelings” let us know. Left untreated those feelings just fester and ultimately break open in some way.

  • concerns suppressed turn to Paranoia
  • anger suppressed turns to Rage
  • resentments suppressed turns to Bitterness
  • boredom suppressed turns to Apathy
  • fears suppressed turn to Irritation
  • passion suppressed becomes Frustration

Pushing anything away only sees it re-emerge stronger and often fiercer than before. It will always find ways to escape. No different to water – when a container is full, if you keep adding water eventually the container will burst. You cannot keep filling it full of water. We are no different. We need to find a way to remove those habits, behaviours and attitudes or even people that no longer service us – the very ones that could eventually get us to breaking point!

When of the things many of us suppress is our own dreams and goals:

  • I have too many responsibilities to worry about me
  • it could never happen to me
  • why try it will never work
  • everyone or just laugh at me

The list could go on

The excuses – the reasons. Following your dreams requires strength, courage – it asks you to step out of line – out of your comfort zone unemployment societies expectations, family’s expectations and self expectations.  Most of these expectations are tinged with negativity and “reasons why you can’t” – rather than reasons why you can.

We really only have the moment of NOW! The time we waste agonising over “things” that do not matter, the time we spend agonising over the “things” that we cannot change (others and the past) and the time spent agonising over the “I should have….”  Only sees us wasting ‘valuable time’.

The time is ours – we can do what we want with it. The question is, “are you happy with what you achieve in your life” (with the time that you have had to date)? It is time to recognise the ‘things, behaviours and habits (and people)’ in our life that see us wasting time our own precious time. The only “things” that we can change are within us – so it’s a waste of time trying to change others. It is necessary only to change your own behaviours and attitudes. There is no better time than NOW – if not – when?? Life is precious, it can change in a second. Why wait for that life changing trauma to make the changes? Do it now and you may AVOID the life changing trauma’s.

Take a moment to think about where you would like to see yourself and start listening to your body.  Invest in reading motivational books, turn the news off (it’s too depressing and negative) and do something you enjoy doing.  Give your body the time it needs to get back in balance.

  1. Very nicely said Diane. It seems so easy to get caught in trying to get someone else to change something in order for yourself to feel better, but it never works. Constant mindset work is so important. Thank you for sharing this post today 🙂

  2. Powerful post! Positive mindset is every thing! If everyone was educated on this the world would be amazingly different! Thanks for sharing!

    1. So true Justin but unfortunately we seem to have forgotten how to be positive a majority of the time in general….

    1. Hi Debbie, thanks for that. Possibly why doctors ask us where it hurts! I so believe that if our bodies are not well we get sick Thanks for your feedback
